The journey
continues: Proud of Bustamante ON FEBRUARY 24,
1884 In a humble house on Blenheim Estate Came William Alexander
Clarke to Hanover Our Independence
was born. In the middle of his life came
the hardest things to face.
The poor and middle
class people had to strike and bring the
Government disgrace. He impressed his name
on this society by writing to the authorities about
how he felt. About the decline in the
wealth of the economy, and the situations of
the people in poverty.
He provided for us the
BITU, to promote liaisons between workers
and their employers. To this day stands strong.
the BITU to benefit employers, to benefit
you.
Arrested for speaking out
for the people, he did not give up the task He
wanted us free! We did not have to ask So he
sought our independence for us in 1962.
No more to be under the
colonial system, no more to be under British
rule. Our nation's first Prime Minister, who let
us know: `The pot of discontent is boiling. Today,
it has reached the brim, tomorrow it may
overflow!' That pot of discontent still boils, and
the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union still
is.
An astute
politician, nationalist and founding father (JLP)
was he, Jamaica and I are proud of the achievements
of The Right Excellent Sir William Alexander
Bustamante (1884 1977)
