M.Ed. in Primary Education
(St. Joseph's Teachers' College & Mount St. Vincent University)

Excellence, innovation, discovery and individual attention are what make Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) unique. Since 1986 MSVU has been offering a Master of Education programme in Primary (Elementary) Education to teachers interested in professional development in the areas of teaching, curriculum and research.  In 2007, MSVU in cooperation with St. Joseph's Teacher' College started offering the Master of Education, Focus in Primary Education in Jamaica.

Students combine study in the core subject areas central to the primary curriculum, e.g. science, social studies, mathematics, and language arts, as well as seminar studies of issues facing contemporary teachers, and research studies leading to a research project related to their teaching.

Student Support
Students have access to a range of academic and programme support and each student is assigned a Programme Faculty Advisor who will provide academic programme advising.  As well, the Onsite Coordinator will assist students in various programme matters.  Students also have access to the library facilities at the College and the extensive online library of MSVU.

Courses
Courses in the degree use a critical, analytical approach to explore issues and practices related to primary education.  They will be offered through evening/weekends workshops.  Each course consists of two workshops per term, with 4-6 weeks between workshops, during which students work on assignments and group work.
